Freeport West is a multi-faceted, community-based human services organization that contributes resources, teaches new skills and actively supports the strengths and efforts of youth and families.  We work with those youth and families most likely to experience poverty, oppression, institutionalization and violence.

A wide range of hand-on assistance is offered, such as housing, in-home parenting training, assessment and advocacy.  We also work with outside agencies for access to additional services. Freeport provides all of its services free of charge to participants.

Our Programs

Freeport FamilyWorks provides parenting skills and helps families with children at risk of neglect or abuse.

Community Connections works with families and youth in local emergency shelters.

Project SOLO provides support for homeless/at risk-teens and teaches them life skills as well as providing transitional living services.

StreetWorks and its twelve member collaborative agencies provide street outreach, referrals and resources to homeless youth.

Health and Wellness provides families and youth with opportunities to increase their wellness by participating in fitness training and nutritional education experiences.

Freeport St. Paul is a youth center that provides support for at-risk and homeless youth and offers arts and cultural programming.

History

Freeport was founded in 1970 by a group of activist youth who started a group home for at-risk youth. Over the years, it has provided services for group homes, ILS homes, a shelter, family reunification, parenting and family assessments, community building, youth services and health and wellness programming.
